Mission |

We are pleased to announce the formation of the Beaver Island Conservation Club (BICC). The BICC is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization open to all people who live, vacation, fish, and hunt on Beaver Island. Our mission is to rehabilitate, expand, maximize, and sustain the wildlife, forests, and fisheries of the Beaver Island Archipelago. Success will be achieved through scientific management concepts, responsible harvest, proper land use and sustainment, and public/private land owner cooperation. The BICC will concentrate on 10 key areas over the next 10 years to restore Beaver Island to the wildlife and fishing paradise of its’ not too distant past. Please see our projects section for an in depth discussion of each cornerstone of the BICC plan. |

News Update |
|
Sept 2010 Both townships, the Wildlife Club, and the Chamber of Commerce have endorsed the BICC’s quality deer management plan! The township resolution, BICC / BIWC agreement, and the updated QDM plan can be found here. The regulation changes will not take effect until the 2011 hunting season but we ask all our members to help us get an early start on improving our deer herd. |

Dec 2010 The BICC is tentatively scheduled to present the island's Quality Deer Management initiative to the DNR's Natural Resources Commission during their February board meeting. At that time, the DNR will be able to approve the special regulations for the island and discuss folding QDM into a more wide ranging Wildlife Certification Process that the DNR is developing. Though Wildlife Certification has not been finalized yet, it is designed to allow landowner and the state to manage their land together to achieve specific goals such as improving the deer herd, grouse population, waterfowl habitat etc..... Beaver Island is a perfect place to showcase the possibilities of Wildlife Certification. Please forward us any ideas you have that could become part of an island wide Wildlife Certification program. info@beaverislandconservation.org |
